Pastoral Resources

Ephesians 4:11-12 - And God gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.

God has called each of us in Jesus Christ to be His own and live under Him in His kingdom. This happens solely by God’s grace. He has also called us to love and serve one another by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and this happens throughout our lives: in family, work, school, and community.

As Pastor, I have been called to preach the Gospel and equip the saints for ministry. This equipping takes many forms, but always includes coming alongside you to encourage your trust in Christ and your love for others. Please take note of the various resources for you and those you know.
(None of these resources have additional costs, but are covered through the generosity and tithes of Trinity Lutheran Church.)

  • Preaching/Speaking/Teaching - God’s word is powerful and effective. Ours is a ministry of the Word, Jesus Christ, and the Bible that points us to him. Pastor preaches and teaches on Sundays and throughout the week in our church and school ministry. He is also available to speak with individuals, families, and groups on a range of subjects.
  • Baptism - As birth brings us into new life and a family, Baptism in God’s triune name brings us into eternal life and God’s forever family. In Baptism we are joined to Christ in his death and resurrection. This gift of God is one way and does not depend on age or worthiness. The Father says, “You are my beloved child,” and our lives flow from that identity. Baptism can be received at any time and in any setting.
  • First Communion Instruction (and Lord’s Supper Reception) - On the night Jesus was betrayed he took bread, gave it to his disciples and said, “Take and eat. This is my body, given for you.” Afterward he took the cup of wine, gave it and said, “Take and drink. This is my blood, poured out for the forgiveness of your sins.” Whenever we receive this meal we receive Christ’s grace and proclaim his death and resurrection. As Baptism is new birth into the family of God, the Lord’s Supper is life long nourishment from the hand of God.
    • There is no age requirement for First Communion Instruction, and readiness to receive will be on a case-by-case basis.
    • The Lord’s Supper is normally received by the whole congregation as part of Worship, but can also be received in family/individual cases as listed below.
  • Funeral and Committal - If we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. The purpose of Funeral and Committal services is to comfort the living, and speak to the hope of resurrection life in Jesus.
  • Confirmation/Catechesis - Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our life and faith. Confirmation/Catechesis covers the foundational teachings of what we believe. This focused instruction is for those new to Christianity (or to the Lutheran expression), young people who have been baptized and raised in the church, and any others who wish to refresh the fundamentals of the Christian faith. Confirmation/Catechism often leads to a public confession of faith. This instruction can be done individually or as a class.
  • Confession/Forgiveness - If we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The most difficult thing for us to do is admit that we are wrong or have failed in some way. To confess means to be open to judgment, which can be frightening or a relief. God tells us up front that His answer to any confession is always mercy, love, and forgiveness. Pastor is available to hear private confession, to maintain the seal of confidentiality, and to speak Christ’s forgiveness in a tangible way.
